June was a more relaxed month than May with the craziness of Superbooth behind me and a good amount of new orders coming in waiting to be built and delivered. Thank you to everyone who jumped on the website to order the new modules after Superbooth! To all my North American customers I want to point out that you can also order modules from Noisebug. This will alleviate the headache of the dreaded import tariffs, taxes and expensive express shipping and benefits everyone involved! Noisebug have been and still are incredibly supportive of the AE Modular brand and are currently  boosting their stock of new and bread-and-butter modules. In between fulfilling new orders I found the time to work on a few new modules with the STRING ENSEMBLE being the most exciting of them, as you will see below. The STRING ENSEMBLE is the successor of the (now discontinued) SOLINA module, but incredibly more capable. My mission to put MIDI into the AE Modular continues with two more modules which are now in a new revision and have received the ability to be controlled via IMDI.

So all this month was productive and creative and apart from 3 new modules, which are now available in the shop, I have even had some time to work on yet another module, but more about that in next month's blog.

New Products

STRING ENSEMBLE

The STRING ENSEMBLE is a polyphonic synth that recreates the sound of the famous string machines of the late 70's and 80's, like Solina, Logan String and others.

24 voice polyphony
This module has a whopping 24-voice polyphony, 2 oscillators per voice plus a suboscillator that can be mixed in. The voices can be detuned and set to an octave offset, offering a variety of base sounds, together with the sub oscillator. An LFO allows pitch modulation/vibrato; the per-voice envelope offers separate attack and decay time.

Ensemble/Chorus
The oscillator section is followed by a chorus/ensemble effects section that (especially the ensemble effect) is the core of the unique string machine sound, and with the ensemble effect being stereo it's giving you get a nice width without further FX.

Phaser
Finally the module also includes a phaser, which is a classic combination giving instant 80's "space sound", as known from Jean-Michel Jarre and others. The phaser is 4- or 8-stage, offers adjustable LFO rate and depth plus feedback, and has adjustable stereo width too; here created by phase-shifting the LFO between left and right.

CV/Gate and IMDI control
Via IMDI, the module can be played like a regular polysynth; a gate out can control e.g. a subsequently patched filter envelope.
With two CV and one gate input, the module can also be used like a "classic modular"; a switch chooses between minor and major scale, a Bass note can be added, and CV1 sets the chord within the chosen scale over several octaves, CV2 controls the chord type and different variations/inversions of the chord.
